Description: Chrysocolla is a minor ore of copper. It is of secondary origin and forms in the oxidation zones of copper ore bodies. Associated minerals are quartz, limonite, azurite, malachite, cuprite, and other secondary copper minerals. It is typically found as vein fillings. Chrysocolla is said to soothe and calm the mind, body, and chakras. It can help alleviate stress, anxiety, and emotional turmoil.

  • Color: vivid, beautiful blue and blue-green colors.

  • Mining/Collection: Appears in veins from 0 to 70 meters of depth on top of copper reservoirs, the green color in the desert sand is used by miners to find copper reserves.

  • Crystal Form/Structure: found as botryoidal crystal or rounded crust covering other crystals and minerals.

  • Hardness: 2.5-3.5 on the Mohs scale, very brittle

  • Chakra: Heart and Throat chakras

  • Astrological Sign: Chrysocolla is associated with the zodiac signs Aquarius, Taurus, and Virgo. It is also said to be a good crystal for Gemini.

  • Unique Fact: Chrysocolla, being a very brittle material, is one of the most difficult-to-cut lapidary stones. A cutter who knows how to work with Chrysocolla, can cut anything. Even master cutters have very high loss of breakage during the process.

  • Usage Insight: Its versatile properties make it suitable for anyone seeking to find inner peace and improve their communication skills.

  • Ethically mined and produced: Gemrock only buys from legal providers (paper trail). Our Cabochons are exclusively produced by our in-house gemcutters. Our staff works under legal labor contracts, at higher than average salaries, and receives all labor benefits as well as excellency bonuses and a share in the companies’ profits.

  • Environmentally friendly and carbon-neutral: Gemrock continuously works towards saving water and energy, and reducing waste along its entire production chain. The remaining impact is measured via carbon footprint evaluation and is neutralized by a reforestation project financed by a small percentage of our profits from each cabochon.

  • Care Instructions: Clean your Chrysocolla by wiping it with a dry cloth. Caution: Handle with care, because of its brittleness it can be easily scratched or broken.

  • Authenticity Tips:

    • Hardness Test: Chrysocolla is very soft and brittle (2.5 - 3.5 on the Mohs scale).

    • False Name: Chrysocolla is sold in Peru as “Peruvian Turquoise”. Don’t get fooled, there is no turquoise in Peru.
