• Mining/Collection: Andean Picture Jasper is hand-collected, not mined. Therefore this extraction did not cause any environmental impact.

• Crystal Form/Structure: Jasper is an aggregate of microgranular quartz and/or cryptocrystalline chalcedony and other mineral phases. It is an opaque, impure variety of silica, usually red, yellow, brown or green in color; and rarely blue. The common red color is due to iron(III) inclusions.

• Hardness: 6-7 on the Mohs scale,

• Ethically mined and produced: Gemrock is the only company producing cabochons from Andean Picture Jasper. The stones are hand-collected in the Peruvian Andean mountains, not mined. Our cabochons are exclusively produced by our in-house gem cutters. Our staff works under legal labor contracts, at higher than average salaries, and receives all labor benefits as well as excellence bonuses and a share in the companies’ profits.

• Environmentally friendly and carbon-neutral: Gemrock continuously works towards saving water and energy, and reducing waste along its entire production chain. The remaining impact is measured via carbon footprint evaluation and is neutralized by a reforestation project financed by a small percentage of our profits from each cabochon.
